CM Smith works with a refined visual poetic and personal lexicon where multiple images are silk-screen collaged together on a single canvas, providing an instant narrative for your interpretation. Cued to Smith's thinking by the work's title, Smith is nevertheless certain that the nature of the imagery will provide you with your own way of seeing - and thus understanding - the work he presents.

Paintings

Though Smith's prints are often compositionally similar to his works on canvas, much of the difference lies in the fact that the works on paper are done in a much more withheld palette and are meant to be more composition focused. Smith's prints are done on high quality Rives BFK art paper, and are more affordable, though in short-run series, similar to the original canvas that inspired it.

Combining influences from his books and canvas, Smith takes his vision to another level, offering narrative sculpture that can be unfolded out or folded out at whim, making for a portable sculpture. Each of these work within Smith's own visual lexicon, with their own inherent meanings and an endless storyline for you, the viewer.

Sculptures

Smith uses existing books as a basis for subject matter for his art books, which combine elements from his books and canvases to create visual narratives of his own.  The resulting artifact is both visual and tactile, inviting both collector and casual viewer alike to engage with the works as you would any other book – by holding it, and ''reading'' at your leisure.
